Residential carpet cleaning requires Hot Water Extraction (Steam Cleaning). All the major carpet mills recommend Hot Water Extraction. Many of the mills go a step further and recommend against the Bonnet method (many cheap carpet cleaners advertise this process as "dry in an hour").
For commercial carpet there is a new technology called Low Moisture Encapsulation. This method can be used as a stand alone method and as an interim method. Shaw carpets actually recommends this method as an interim method.
